About this deal

Not exaggerating, I’ve probably spent hours researching the problem (thinking it was the game) and adjusting the many settings in ATS to know avail. I’ve tried changing the USB port, etc. to no avail. It is very easy to setup, although as ever we recommend using this wheel with a wheel stand. The base isn’t anywhere near as heavy as a Fanatec ClubSport 2.5’s, and it includes a screw-in clamp that secures it to a surface. For context I'm mainly using this on PC under Linux. In this context it is recognized as a generic controller, with wheel turning and pedals registered properly as analogue axis. Out of the box it might not feel great depending on the game, but once you read the manual and understand how to adjust sensitivity, deadzone, and rebinding buttons, it is easy to adjust based on what you're using it for. The Hori Racing Wheel APEX is a gaming controller that offers both analogue and digital input. The controller features an options button and a share button for gaming control functions. It is compatible with both PC and PlayStation 4 gaming platforms. The controller is equipped with reflex vibration and programmable buttons. The connectivity technology of the device is both wired and wireless with Bluetooth/USB device interface. The housing material of the controller is made of plastic. Several of the buttons can also be remapped: the pedals and the buttons on the wheel itself. This means you can play a game without the pedals if you like, making those L/R buttons the accelerator and brake. It might not be a bad idea for ultra-arcadey racers.

If you're on a budget, then, we'd recommend either the Thrustmaster T150 or the Hori Overdrive wheel for Formula 1 and other racing sims. They're fantastic entry-level wheels that, unlike the Thrustmaster T300 RS, won't cost the earth.Since the default setting is "Y button: Shift Up, X button: Shift Down", button reassignment is necessary to operate with the paddle. Since the default setting is "A button: Shift up, X button: Shift Down", button reassignment is necessary to operate with the paddle. The Hori isn’t. It rumbles when you drift, hit a barrier or car, or go over road markings, but you don’t have to fight with the wheel. There’s a little bit of resistance to turns, and the wheel rights itself when you take your hands off, but there aren’t motors in the base at war with your arms. There’s much less resistance than the pedals of the Logitech G29. Both are very easy to depress and are by no means realistic. However, the brake is at least slightly stiffer than the gas pedal. Like other wheel sets, the pedals plug directly into the wheel base, and so don’t take up an extra USB port on your PS4.

Los pedales son igual relativamente simples, de plástico, y considero que necesitan de algo para mantenerlos en su lugar mientras se estén utilizando. También recomendaría que se utilice la abrazadera en lugar de las ventosas para mantener el volante fijo.Since the default setting is "A button: Shift Up, X button: Shift Down", button reassignment is necessary to operate with the paddle.

If you want to reassign buttons, hold the "Assign" button for 3 seconds, press the button you want to reassign, and then press the button you want to assign it to. You can reassign the buttons L2, R2, L lever, R lever, left pedal, and right pedal. To reset the buttons, hold the programming button for 3 seconds and then press the button you want to reset twice. It is necessary to change the right / left turn operation (LT, RT button) of the rear wheel to another button. In that case, analog operation is not possible. The pedals aren't great but the wheel itself makes up for it considering the price. I believe you are able to use other pedals with it too, so that could be a minor upgrade later on. They do slide around a bit, so I'd recommend putting something heavy behind them to stop from sliding forward. The flip-out extension for them gives a decent spot to rest your heel with the weight of your foot doing a bit to prevent sliding when moving between brake and gas pedals.

Software and Firmware Updates

Connect the steering wheel to the console via the USB port. Make sure the console switch is set correctly (PS4 or PS3). It offers a less smooth feel to the rotation of the wheel than a belt-driven system, used by Thustmaster’s mid-range-and-up models, or the high-end direct drive style Fanatec now offers even in its base product, the Fanatec CSL DD. Don't expect a very fleshed out racing sim experience off this setup. That being said, it does well enough for what it is. The controller is designed with the user in mind, with an ergonomic design for comfortable gaming sessions. With its dual connectivity options, the device offers flexibility to gamers who want to switch between wired and wireless modes. The programmable buttons offer a personalized gaming experience, ensuring that the controller can be customized to the user's preferences.

The underside panel of the Hori RWA pedals also flips out to give your feet something to rest on. Initially I thought this seemed a pointless, but it actually helps keep the pedals in place because you’re no longer just pushing the pedals away from you. The weight of your heel helps to keep them in place on carpet. Racing Wheels with any lot numbers outside this scope have already been updated, so it is not necessary to do the update process. There are good bits, sure, particularly the lower price. However, the Hori Apex (and the Hori Overdrive) is easily the most toy-like wheel in this group. It has plastic gear shifters, fairly cheap plastic pedals and no parts to upgrade. It also has very limited rotation compared with all the other wheels here, turning just 270 degrees rather than 900 or 1080. Turn the steering wheel fully left and right. Repeat this process each time you connect or restart the console.

Is Hori's force feedback racing wheel any good?

Fanatec’s pedals are excellent, with seriously tough metal frames and proper progressive brakes, and you can even choose how stiff the brake is. It goes so stiff, in fact, that to really get the most out of the CSL Elite you want a frame into which you screw the pedals. But the price alone tells you this is an enthusiast wheel. HORI brings the best in build-quality, customization options, and authentic racing simulation with the Racing Wheel APEX for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. HORI's design team has brought all the features and quality of a full-size racing wheel at an affordable price. Massive 270 degree turn-ratio - Completely programmable & adjustable, and PS5, PS4 & PC compatible. The Racing Wheel APEX clamps securely to your table or racing wheel stand with sturdy clamps and steel parts. The full-size pedals are built to last. Change from 270 degree to 180 degree turn ratio on the fly and fine tune other settings such as dead zone, pedal sensitivity and more. Cross the finish line with the all new RWA: Racing Wheel APEX for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. Officially licensed by Sony. Many owners end up wanting to upgrade the pedals after a while too. The pedal caps are metal, but this is really just a basic plastic construction, without the stiffness of a great board or more advanced features like a high-end progressive brake. Fanatec makes some of the best, and most expensive, racing wheels going. The Fanatec CSL Elite is actually one of its more affordable models, made with a mainstream audience in mind, not least because it supports consoles rather than just the PC. Fanatec and Thrustmaster charge a lot more for leather wheels. The Logitech G29 gets you higher-end extras at no extra cost. Its pedalboard is much better than anything else at the price too, with a board that has a clutch and very solid metal plates. It’s not plastic rubbish.
